Hiring a Professional Organsier
“Why do I need an organiser? I should be able to tidy up…”
Society is pretty good at influencing where we’re allowed to ask for help.
· Hiring a personal trainer? Well done for taking care of your health.
· Using a Virtual Assistant? Good idea; that will make you more efficient.
· Getting supermarket deliveries to your door? What a fantastic idea!
But, for some reason, we feel that running an organised home should be something that just happens; seamlessly, easily and naturally.
We feel that we should be able to do it ourselves.
Too overwhelmed to know where to start?
Home is the place we use as a physical and emotional base. It’s where we feel safest. It’s where we raise our children. It’s the heart of our family. That’s lots of people, sharing a space, living their lives and – particularly if you live with children – making a huge mess while they are at it!
When the clutter builds up, and that drawer, corner, room or whole house gets totally out of control, we feel shame. We’re overwhelmed. Decluttering? We don’t know where to start. Life goes on and we get used to living in a mess.
Fast forward a few weeks or years and your home is in a state. It’s then that you arrive at a crossroads: call in a professional or risk continued high levels of stress and even depression?
Would you say that your house is cluttered?
A 2010 study published in scientific journal Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin used linguistic analysis software to measure the way 60 working women and men discussed their homes.
It reported that the women who described their living spaces as “cluttered” or full of “unfinished projects” were more likely to be depressed and fatigued than women who described their homes as “restful” and “restorative.” They also found that women with cluttered homes had higher levels of cortisol; the stress hormone.
But where do you go to relax if being at home makes you feel stressed and tired?
I don’t want to live in a show home!
When working with a professional organiser, the focus is not on your things: it’s on you. At the initial consultation your organiser will get to know you, and will form an understanding of how to organise your home so it reflects your lifestyle and personality.
To this end, professional declutterers are refreshingly non-judgemental. They don’t react emotionally to their client’s belongings so can help clients decide whether or not specific items deserve a place in the home.
Declutterers won’t encourage you to throw out things you love, but may question and help you re-think your attachment to things you’ve had for a long time. You’ll then have help to organise what you want to keep so that you can enjoy a well-run home now and in the future.
No one expects or wants to live in a show home, but wouldn’t it be great to feel calm and happy in your house, and to not be ashamed or worried about having visitors?
Professional Organisers help you feel calmer and happier in your home
· Have you ever started to have a “good clear out” and, after 30 minutes, been exhausted, distracted and inexplicably furious? Work with a professional and they’ll be by your side, encouraging, questioning and keeping you on track.
· Do you have a drawer, corner, cupboard or room which is piled full of rubbish you can’t face clearing? Ask for help. Years of clutter can be gone in hours.
· Is your house full of piles of paperwork, kids’ old sports equipment, clothes or “stuff” that you’d like to have organised, taken to the recycling centre or given to charity? Stop buying storage equipment! Call in an organiser and let’s make it happen.
It’s clear that having a well organised home is important for your emotional wellbeing. It will make you feel more in control of your life; not to mention saving you so much time every day.
Whatever your clutter issue, a declutter expert will find ways to work with your space so – when you do make a mess – it’s temporary, just a normal part of life and not a step on the way to chaos.
